February has produced a great sheepshead bite at the nearshore wrecks and some of the deeper creeks and docks in the back bay. The sheepshead bite is starting to slow down with the water temps starting to increase into the low 80s. The pilchards and threadfin are starting to come in. The snook bite is starting to gain some momentum with the warmer waters and stronger tides. Some nice redfish are being caught as well. Although the redfish and snook are closed to harvesting and the sheepshead are coming to an end, there is still an opportunity to put some food on the table if you are not a fan of catch and release fishing. Larger mangrove snapper are being caught at the nearshore wrecks and around the mangroves and docks in the backbay and can make for a tasty meal. As March approaches, the bite should only get better.
